Ice Storm in Lousiana

I am sure some of you are pretty used to having ice and snow storms.
but we here in Louisiana are not. We see this only once in a while. We have actually had snow 3 winters in a row now.
not what some of you are used to but snow never the less.
and this year we had ice covering everything.
We had worked so hart to get some smaller type shade trees growing in our back yard. Finally this year they were big enough to give us some shade from the brutal evening sun here in Louisiana.
Well now we are 1 tree short right at the corner of the house where we really needed it. The ice broke one of our weeping willows off. It snapped it off just below the limbs.
When I was a little girl we used to have lots of snow. I remember walking to school in it.
Yes, we walked to school about 3 miles down the railroad tracks.
A group of us would meet at the tracks right down from my house and we walked to school together.
A lot of times at the tressel if there was a train coming we had to go way down to the bottom of the tall hill the tracks were on and walk down there until the train was gone and then climb back up.
A lot of time if I was trhe last one leaving from school I would wal around by the road because that was safer. It was a lot longer but a lot safer if you were by yourself.
Well we are supposed to have another bout witha storm this week. Hopefully if we get any of the white stuff it will be in the form of snow and not ice.

Valentines Day

Another Holiday is now upon us.
It seems as tho Christmas and New Year were just yesterday.

It seems as tho the time just flies and leaves you behind.

Haven't been able to post for a while
have been having issue4s with Vertigo.
Been to the Dr. twice already and have to go back to 2 different ones this coming Monday.

Isn't this weather wild. We are in an Winter Storm Watch way down here in Central Louisiana.
I remember lots of snow when I was a kid but we have had snow 2 winters in a row now and looks like this will make 3 in a row.

My Life as a Crafter

MY CRAFTING LIFE 1

I have crafting just about all of my life.

At one time I owned and operated a ceramic shop which was really a fun job.

I had classes and we got the dealer to come and give a group of us classes and we became Certified Ceramic Teachers.

I loved doing the ceramics especially the antique look on Indian pieces. I did a great job on them and sol lots of the indian ones.

We went to craft shoes and that is where I sold most of them

The antique technique consist of

Once you get the greenware clearned and fired into bisque you paint it completely in black,

Once this dries you start using you colors and you do what is called dry brushing the colors on you piece.

Dry brushing is putting paint on your brush and then wiping most of it off before you start painting there your brush is almost dry and you put just a little paint on at a time so that the black still shows thru some.

Will put on some of My Crafting Life in a day or so

My Passions How Tos

I have 2 passions. One is painting and the other is Sewing. At night whiloe watching TV I crochet.

Today I will cover sewing.

When doing sewing the first thing you have to do is decide what item you are going to make.
Now time to pick out your fabric.
the next thing you decide if you are going to trim your item or not.
Sometimes this is the hardest thing to do. Once you have decided you will trim your item the next to do is decide on a fabric that will coordinated with it which is one of the most difficult things unless you go out and buy your fabric and your trim at the same time.
Ok, now you are ready to make your item.
Now pick out the design you will make. If you do your own patterns then you are ok. If not pick out what pattern you are going to use.
if you are a beginner be sure to pick out a simple pattern with easy instructions.
Otherwise pick out what pattern you want to use.
Now decide on the size you want to make.
cut out you dress or whatever it is you are making.
Now you are ready to sew.
Choose you thread that matches your fabric and you are ready to go.
Be sure to finish your seams as you make you drress. This is very important .
Follow your instructions carefully so as not to have to rip anything out and start over on something,
Once you master a few item you may be STUCK ON SEWING.

There is a Group on Etsy that are really on the right track

they are helping their neighbors

I think it is every other day they have what they call a sneak attack.
they choose shops that have none of little sales[what you would call undiscovered shops] and they visity these shops, if they like a shop they heart it and also heat item that they like and even purchase some of their items.

Behind the Scenes on Purse making

this is a little info on things that go on b ehind the scenes when it come to purse making.

Purse making is not as easy as making say a girsl dress. there are tons of fabric that are suitable for making girls dresses so that is not much of a problem but when it comes to making purse you hav e to be sure you get the right fabric,
a few things to consider is weight of the fabric, type of fabric, fabric for the lining and also interfacing fabric. Each one has to be right for the pattern you are using.
you have to also consider the pattern also. You have to stop and thing if it is a color and design that will go right with lost of different outfits so that it will be satisfactory to a lot of people[that is if you are selling your purse]

Now you have to decide on the pattern also. Do you want a purse with a shoulder strap or just a regular handle or do you want a clutch or wristlet.

You alos have to be sure your sewing maching will sew the thickness of all of the fabric when you put them together.

Now that you have it all figured out it is time to sew you purse.
Be sure you hav e picked out a pattern and fabric for the sewing skill level that you have.
I would not advise a beginner sewer to tackle making a purse.
Intermediate ones need to pick out simple purses to make.
for more advanced patterns you need to have a more advanced skill level for sewing.

I thought I would post about some of my baby Cowboy boots , Booties and Shoes
I have been crocheting since I was a young girl. My Mother taught me the basics and I went on from there by using books on crochet.
If you don't have a hobby and would like to try it there are a lot fo b eginner books out there to teach you how.
Once you learn it is a very relaxing hobby to do.
You don;t have to have a lot of inventory on hand to get started. Just a couple crochet hooks and a book and a little yarn.
Very inexpensive to get started with.
Once you master the beginnings of crochet you can then move up to more advanced items to make.
You can make great gifts at a reasonable price and things for yourself and your family also.

Well,
I haven't been on in a while but have been getting ready for my 3rd surgery in 9 weeks. Had 2 cateract surgeries 3 weeks apart and then fin out I have a hernia on my breastbone. Surgery for that is today.

Eye Surgery

Well, I finally got my second eye surgery out of the way.
I can finally see a little better from it but will be a while before I get my new glasses so have to just put up with the olkder ones for now.

Well I will be making lots of new purses right now.
It will be probably November before I can get to the painting. I have to be able to see well to do this.

Girls Dresses That Grow

This will be 3 different style dress that will grown as the child grows wher eyou can get an extra years wear from the dress. It will be fixedd where you can let the hem oujt real easy and it will still have a hem. This will add 2 inches to the length.
At the top instead of having elastic that may get to tight on you child, it will have ribbon ties so youj may adjust it as they grow and the one that has sleeves will also have ribbon that you can adjust the childs arm size or it will have butterfly sleeves.

and just found out yesterday I have a hernia on my breastbone that I am scheduled to have surgery on August the 30th

Well, It has been a long while since I was on here but many things came up. Been going to thearpy for my sprained ankle. Going to reg Dr visit, had eye problems and had to go to the eye dr. Have to go back to the reg Dr today and back to the eye dr the 7th of July.

Been picking blue berries almost everyday. Thank goodness that is about over with. Picking cucumbers every other day and peppers every few days besides doing a lot of sewing so have really been busy lately.

Had the wholde family minis a few grand children in for Fathers Day.
Also getting ready for mu hubb to have hernia surgery probablu week after next.
Will be glad to get that over with.

Well, if everything would have gone as planned I would be in Gatlinburg Tennesses by now. Was supposed to leave this morning. Almost everything was loaded when Hubby got sick and we had to change our plans.

HAPPY HOLIDAY WEEKEND?

I hope everyone had a ver happy Holiday weekend. Lots of barbecue, swimming and the works.

And now is everyone ready to get back to the old grind. I am sure they are not.

Hope everyone had GREAT Sales over this weekend altho usually sales slow down over this kind of holiday because everyone is busy doing outside things before it get too hot.
It is too hot here already.
We got a much need show today but boy after one of those showers it just turns to steam. but the garden needed it badly.
Anyone out there like cucumbers. I am giving them away by the hands full. Pick 8 or 10 just about every day now. # people just can't eat that many and my pickling days are over.
I used to make jelly and do pickles but have quite doing these. We buy sugar free jelly now. I tried making the sugar free kind but it didn't turn out too we..
The beets have been doing well too. I can those in vinegar and water and they keep very well. Love thos little babies.
We had tons of radishes but they have been long gone.
Peppers are starting to come on now. Maybe have some banana peppers to eat before long.

What is a SEW IT YOURSELF KIT?
It is a kit contaning a dress or capri set already cut out in the size you need
it will also have the accessories like elastic,ribbon and such but no thread. You supply you own thread.
It will also have instruction with illustrations telling you how to put your item together.

I am sure there are some of you out there who has a sewing machine but need to pull it out and dust it off and get it going again. Or even some of you who have always waanted to sew but was intimitaded on how to get started. Well, now is you chance to get started with little expense.

Boy is this year flying by. It is almost half gone already. The older yoiu get the faster it goes
Hubby and son have gone to church and left me and the dog behind. I have an ankle that I think is sprained. Was on a walker for a while but it seams to be getting better.

After moving back to my old home in my New Mobile Home I decided to try my hand at Oil Painting. I had always love to paint. I began painting and found my best subjects were florals and scenery.
i love to paint with the oils because they are so easy to use and they do not dry too fast for you to make changes. The acrylics just dry too fast for me.
I painted and had quite a few stacked when my nephew came by one day to visit and suggested that I try selling them on Ebay
A Friend came by and showed me hoe to get set up on Ebay and how do write a good description and so my online selling career was started. I painted and sold them on different venues for a couple years and then Ebay changed they way of showing your itmes using all the featured items first ahead of the others which killed the seller that was not able to pay $20.00 extra to list an item as Featured so I quit painting and gave most of them away to friends and family. I still have a few of my favorites hanging around.
One of my painting of a Chinese SharPei Dog was featured in our local Newspaper by the group Paws who helps animals.
After this I decided to go back to sewing which I did with my childrens clothing and after a couple of years got set up with some fabric companies so now I sell fabrics and childrens clothing.
lately I have added womens purses,aprons and some household and kitchen items.

Trip to Bonnie and Clyde

Well, We made a tripe to Bonnie and clyde yesterday.In case you are wondering what the heck bonnie and clyde is.It is a
Trade Days. It covers quite a few acres of people with their wares for sale.
there used to be lots of crafts for sale there but was dissappointed to fin very few. I have even set up there many years ago when I was doing ceramics. It is a 3 day event that draws thousands of fold from all over. It is located near Ruston Louisiana.
It has tons of collectable items, lots of glassware. It has an aniomal alley where you can purchase pet of all kinds. My son purchased a pug puppy there a few years ago.

I did't think to take my camera to take some pictures but will next time.
Then off from there to a little outlet mall which is right near by to do a little shopping. Had a great time even tho I was disappointed in there being hardly any crafts

My Life As a Crafter Part 4

I don't know if you have been reading my post on my life as a crafter or not but htis is part 4.
While going to high school I decided I wanted to becomje a Hair Dresser as they caall it now days.
I went to school on weekends and summers, holidays and all and finished my course and got my license the summer before I finished high school. Continued working at the Beauty School until I gradutated from Hight School and went to work in a Beauty shop. After working at one for a while I got another offer at another shop. I took the offer and went to work for her and after about 6 months began to have problems with my eyes. My ey lids would break out in blisters.
I went to the eye dr. and he said I was allergic to the hair waving solution and I had a choice to make. My eyes or my profession so naturally I had to quite doing this type of work after all of this time spent so went back to work at my old job at a dept store.
After getting married in 1955 I quit work and went back to sewing for different folks including my children as they came along.
When we moved to where we are living now in the late 70's I put in a small clothing and lingerie shop out front and operated it for a few years and then added stamped t shirts and continued for a good while doing this.
In the 80's I decided to try my hand at ceramics which I fell in love with. After seeing how well I could do the ceramics I decided to purchase some molds aqnd kilns and began pouring my own.
Naturally I had went ahead and closed the other shop. I turned this shop into a ceramic shop where I sold green wear, bisque and finished products. We alo went to a lot of craft shows until about 1998 or so and did real well at them.
During this time I got a representative to come down and give some classes for a group of ladies including mysel and we became certaifed ceramic teachers so then I began teaching classes in my shop also. Later I learned the porcelain doll making and taught that also.
We decided to move to another small area so leased out home out and moved away.
By this time the shows were beginning to slow down and we were getting a little older so decided to sell the who thing whcih we did while at the other place. After about 2 years my Mother got sick and we moved back to be able to take care of her so that is how we came to be back in the same place again except with a new Mobile Home.
I will finish this up in one more segmant very shortly.

My Life As A Crafter Part 3

I don't know if you have been following my story about being a crafter most or all of my life.
After finishing the series of oil painting classes I went on to junior high school and then High school.
During High School I began to take sewing in my classes and by high school I was making my own clothes that I wore to school. My Mother was a seemstress and a really good one too. So I did a lot of sewing all thru junior and high school. That was well over 50 years ago and I am still sewing. Even tho along the way I did other things which I will get into in more depth shortly.
So I had to do a lot of sewing for me and my sister while in high school. any time she got something that needed a hem or something I had to do it for her. Her daughter sews very well but she still doesn't do much sewing.
But of course she is gettin upin age even more than I am[a year and 10 months to be exact]
More next time,hopefully sooner than this time. And I really mean it this time. I am going to blog more often. I will now show you a few of my newest things I have made,

My Life as a Crafter Series==Post 2

Well I tried to put this on a day or so ago but my cumputer or this side would not cooporate with me so I am going to give it another try

If you read my first post about my life as a crafter you say that it started while I was in grammer school
When I got in 6th grade I was able to attend art school in Alexandria which is about 7 miles to the North of us. I would catch a bus to town and then catch a city bus or walk the 10 or 12 blocks to the Community Center where I attended these classes on Saturdays.
We did lots of pencil and chalk work and some oil paintings. We worked usually from a still form of some kind place on a shel in front of us. We used vases of flowers. Fruit baskets and sometime live subjects from which we did our drawings.
Each month the person voted for the best art work of the month received a golden apple engraved with their name and the date on it. The last month I was able to attend to my suprise I received the golden apple.
Boy was I proud to be able to go home and tell my Mother and Dad that I was the winner.
I attended these glasses for about 2 years.
Once you go to be in Junior High School the time of the classes was at night so I was unable to attend since I had to go by myself and it was not safe to do so for a teen at night so was unable to attend any more classes.
Sure wish I could have followed up with more of those classes.

I thought I would give a preview of my life spent doing crafts.

As a child in school I always wanted to do things that involved making things by hand ,drawing and such.
I remember as a 4th or 5th grader entering a contest in science by drawing a large pocture in pencil of a boy holding out his hand with a trantula on teh back of his hand. It was a contest about hariy creatures. I won first place and my poster got put on the bulletin board and I remember being really proud of myself.
I did a lot of painting and drawing while in school. I guess this started me on my life of creating things to do with crafts of most all kinds.

Christmas is over and THE NEW YEAR IS ALMOST HERE!!
I wonder what it holds for each of us. Hopefully lots of love, laughter,good health and Happiness.

Winter is underway and first think you know it will be spring. Time seams to roll by so fast, especially as you get older. I make lots of clothing so have to think a season ahead and prepare. I am introducing a new line called mix and match so you can make up your own childrens sets, skirt, capris, pants, tops ,dress,hair accessories and purses all to coordniate.
I will also be introducing some kitchen items such as ladies and girls aprons, table items such as placemats and table runners and maybe a table cloth or 2. Also some kitchen hand towels that hang up and to wipe your hands on, pot holders,etc,
